Each year, the Atascadero Police Foundation is honored to award the Luca Benedetti Memorial Scholarship—a program created to carry forward the values and legacy of Detective Luca Benedetti, whose dedication to justice, service, and the SLO community continues to inspire us all.
This year, we are proud to introduce our 2025 scholarship recipient: Samantha Hixenbaugh, a remarkable young woman whose personal story and aspirations embody everything this scholarship stands for.
A Calling Inspired by Family & the SLO Community
Samantha, a senior at Atascadero High, grew up in a law enforcement family where service and community were just part of everyday life. As a young girl, she attended Detective Luca Benedetti’s memorial—an experience that left a lasting impression and deepened her respect for those who serve our community. Outside of the classroom, she’s volunteered for the Atascadero Police Department and Special Olympics, all while staying committed to the AHS Cheer and Stunt teams.
Now, she’s taking the next step in her journey by pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville , with the goal of working for Homeland Security. Her drive, focus, and heart for public service remind us so much of what Detective Benedetti stood for—integrity, courage, and a genuine desire to protect and serve.

The Luca Benedetti Memorial Scholarship isn’t just about academic achievement; it’s about honoring those who are committed to making a meaningful impact in the world and our community. Samantha’s story is a powerful reflection of that mission, and we’re honored to support her as she begins her path toward a career in public safety.
